Smarta Healthcare celebrates National Apprenticeship Week with a new Pharmacy Assistant Apprentice

7th February 2022: Pharmacy and Health Clinic, Smarta Healthcare, has a lot to celebrate this National Apprenticeship Week after gaining a new team member in the form of Pharmacy Services Assistant Apprentice, Hardeep Kaur Sanghera. 18-year-old Hardeep from Putnoe, started her 1-year apprenticeship with Smarta Healthcare at the beginning of January 2022, and is already using her skills to help patients with their Covid-19 vaccinations, and developing her knowledge about how a dispensing pharmacy works.

After completing her Level 3 BTEC in Customer Service qualification, Hardeep was looking to further develop her skills and knowledge with a local business. When Hardeep’s mum and sister came to Smarta Healthcare for their Covid-19 jabs, they mentioned Hardeep’s enthusiasm for a new challenge to Director, Harjinder Singh. After interviewing Hardeep, the Smarta Healthcare team were delighted to offer her an apprenticeship to gain valuable skills in a working environment.

The Pharmacy Services Assistant Apprenticeship is run through Buttercups Training, and aims to help young apprentices learn key skills and knowledge, including the dispensing and supply of medicines and medicinal products, pharmacy law and ethics and person-centred care.

Hardeep is enjoying the challenges of working in a busy pharmacy: “I’m really enjoying learning about medicines and what needs to happen to get them out to patients. I also really like interacting with the patients and being helpful and friendly. I feel really lucky to have found an apprenticeship with a local company that helps people in the community.”

Smarta Healthcare is no stranger to encouraging a younger generation of men and women into the medical and healthcare sector. Last year the team welcomed student volunteers, Har-Saivak Singh and Nirmal Kaur, during the busy lockdown period that saw the pharmacy dispense and deliver over 500 prescription orders every day to patients in the Bedfordshire area. Har-Saivak has since moved onto studying 1st year in Medicine, and Nirmal is in her 3rd year Pharmacy Degree.

Smarta Healthcare co-founder, Harjinder Singh, is excited to welcome Hardeep and others to the world of pharmacy: “Pharmacy is a very exciting and rewarding industry, and we’re excited to offer opportunities for young people to experience it with some first-hand training. Investing in the younger generation is beneficial for us as a business, as well as the community we serve.”

Throughout National Apprenticeship week, Hardeep will be posting on Smarta Healthcare’s social media channels to give a behind-the-scenes look at what goes on in a busy pharmacy on Facebook, Instagram and LinkedIn.
