Wegovy® is designed to aid in weight loss when other methods haven’t been effective. It acts like a hormone that affects the parts of the brain that manage appetite and eating habits, helping you consume less food and potentially supporting weight loss.
Wegovy weight loss injections, can be used by adults ages 18-75 who have:
- A BMI of 30 or above
- A BMI of 27 or above and a weight-related health condition such as:
- Diabetes
- Cardiovascular disease
- High blood pressure
- PCOS
- Sleep apnoea
How does the Smarta Healthcare Weight Management Clinic work?
Our weight management service is provided by a dedicated team of pharmacists and healthcare professionals.
During your initial consultation, we’ll take your measurements, check your BMI, and monitor your blood pressure.
We’ll also take the time to discuss your weight loss goals and medical history in detail.
If appropriate, we may offer weight loss medications as part of your personalised strategy, which may also include a nutrition plan, lifestyle changes and personal training programme where appropriate.
Every 4 weeks during treatment, we will check your overall health and monitor your progress.
If I’m suitable for Wegovy®, what is the treatment schedule?
Wegovy® is a once-a-week injection designed to support weight loss.
Every 4 weeks, we’ll monitor your progress and adjust your plan to suit your preference and requirements.
- 1st month – You’ll start with a dose of 0.25 mg once weekly
- 2nd month your weekly dose may increase to 0.5 mg.
- 3rd month your weekly dose may increase to 1.0 mg.
- 4th month your weekly dose may increase to 1.7 mg.
Starting from the 5th month, we may recommend continuing at 1.7 mg or increasing to the full dose of 2.4 mg weekly.
Who should not use Wegovy®?
You should not take Wegovy® if you:
- Are over the age of 75
- Are pregnant or breastfeeding
- Have certain conditions such as liver, kidney, or heart failure, an eating disorder, or pancreatitis
- Are using insulin, sulphonylureas, or other weight-loss medications with similar mechanisms to Wegovy®, such as Victoza.
Our dedicated pharmacists and healthcare professionals will check your medical history, as well as your current medications and supplements before starting any treatment.
How should Wegovy® injection pens be stored?
- Wegovy® injections pens should be stored in the fridge between 2°C to 8°C
- Keep them in their original carton to protect against light
- If the pen cap has not been removed, Wegovy® can be stored at room temperature 30°C in the original carton for up to 28 days
Discard pens that have been:
- Exposed to light or temperatures above 30°C
- Frozen
- Out of the fridge for more than 28 days
What are the side-effects of taking Wegovy®?
Common side effects of Wegovy® include
- Dizziness
- Indigestion/upset stomach
- Heartburn/acid reflux
- Nausea/vomiting
- Constipation or diarrhea
- Headaches
- Fatigue
